Responsibility

Secto Design is committed to socially, economically and environmentally responsible production in Finland.

The beginnings

Secto Design founder Tuula Jusélius and designer Seppo Koho met for the first time in 1995. From their first meeting, they felt a certain soul mate. They shared a respect for Nordic forests as well as for clean Scandinavian design and professional wood craftsmanship.

Tuula Jusélius and Seppo Koho started working together on innovative wooden furniture. The furniture was a success, but customers were now faced with a problem. There were no matching wooden lamps available on the market to go with this furniture. This dilemma led to the creation of the Secto 4200 pendant lamp, which would later become the basis for Secto Design's entire wooden lamp collection.

internationalization

Over the years, Secto Design has built up an extensive global retail network and is represented all over the world. Around 95% of production is exported to over 80 countries. To strengthen its presence on the international market, Secto Design USA was founded in 2017.

Together with the new models and increasing national and international demand, what was originally planned as a small workshop in Heinola has become a busy factory with over 30 employees. Since 2017, Secto Design has been the sole owner of the Sectomo factory. Its CEO, Joakim Jusélius, is the second generation of the family-run lighting design company.

Innovation with a handcrafted touch

At the time, the new Secto 4200 pendant lamp was a real innovation and absolutely unique. It took a lot of time and effort to find a carpenter who was able to produce Secto lamps in large quantities without losing the artisanal touch. The new wooden lamp and its soft light attracted people. The use of wood as a lamp material was met with surprise and amazement on the market. Today, the lamp collection includes 26 different models and continues to grow steadily.

All Secto Design original lamps have been marked with a hologram since December 2017.

Fight against product piracy

Secto Design's beautiful lampshade shapes have also attracted some unwanted admirers. The fight against piracy, supporting the original design and valuing the skills of Finnish craftsmen, is extremely important to Secto Design. Aside from the time-consuming task of monitoring the market for replicas, Secto Design is determined to defend its intellectual property rights. Now, all Secto Design lamps are marked with a hologram sticker when they leave the factory to help customers distinguish the original Secto Design product from a fake one.

Secto Design partners with Love Original and Be Original Americas to combat counterfeit design, support authentic creative work, and protect the history of design and the future of innovation.
