Many light sources or lamps have the word light colour in the description. This is followed by a number such as 2700, 4000 or 6500 and often a "K" or the word Kelvin. But what does that actually mean?

The color temperature, or light color, as the name suggests, indicates the color of the lamp or light source. From orange light, similar to a sunset, to very bluish light, like on a cloudless day.

The light colour is generally referred to as Kelvin and is often abbreviated with a "K"

An orange light color is called "warm white" light, a yellow light color is called "neutral white". A white or even bluish light color is called "cold white".

So you see, the more yellow the light, the lower the Kelvin number.

Now comes the big question: which Kelvin number is right for me?

In the living area, wellness or hotel rooms we recommend 3000 Kelvin or lower. The lower the light color, the more relaxing the light has on us. With some lights you can even adjust the light color downwards when dimming. A cool effect for cozy hours at home. All you have to do is click on the "dimmable light color" filter.

In kitchens or bathrooms Neutral white is very suitable. The "objective" light is in the Kelvin range between 3300 and 5300. 4000 Kelvin is a good solution for these rooms.

In offices, clinics, parking lots, public buildings etc. it is best to use cold white light. This bright light promotes concentration and has a positive effect on our well-being. For this, you should choose bulbs and lights above 5300 Kelvin. 6500 Kelvin has become the standard here.

Some lights can even be dimmed from 6500 to 2700 Kelvin. This means that one light covers all color palettes and you can set the desired light color depending on the mood or activity in the room. For this, you just need to activate the "dimmable light color" filter in our online shop.
